When the hot water goes in a St George home, you need two answers quickly: what has failed, and whether it's worth fixing. Help Plumbing repairs and replaces hot water systems across St George from our base in Earlwood, which borders Bardwell Park and Turrella. We test the unit, give you a fixed price to repair it and a fixed price to replace it, and the work starts only once you've picked one.

Hot water repairs and replacements across St George
Most failures come down to a single part. On an electric tank that's usually the element or the thermostat; on gas it's often the pilot, the thermocouple or the supply. Water sitting around the base points to the relief valve or, worse, a tank that has rusted through. We carry the common parts in the van, so plenty of repairs are finished on the first visit, during standard hours where we can. Our hot water repairs page explains the testing step by step.
What we find in St George homes
Post-war brick houses
Beverly Hills is mostly red brick and tile bungalows from the years after the Second World War, and Bexley, Kingsgrove and Roselands have many homes of a similar age. A lot of them still rely on an electric storage tank, often in the laundry or out the back, and many of those tanks are already more than ten years old. Storage tanks typically last 8 to 12 years, so age is the first thing we check.
Units near the stations
In the apartment buildings around Wolli Creek, Arncliffe and Rockdale, the first question is whether your hot water comes from a unit inside your own apartment or from a system shared by the building. That decides who books the work: you, or the strata manager. We do both, and strata invoices are itemised by lot and common property.
Repair or replace?
We price both every time, but as a rough guide: a tank under about eight years old with a small fault is worth repairing, while one over ten years old, or one that's corroded, is usually better replaced. Instant gas units tend to last longer, typically 12 to 15 years. If a repair only buys a few months on an old tank, we'll say so.
Choosing the replacement
The new system should cope with the busiest morning in your house, not an average one. If there's gas at the meter, continuous flow often makes sense; without gas, a heat pump is usually the option to look at, and solar suits some roofs. We work on Rheem, Rinnai, Thermann, Aquamax and Stiebel Eltron, among others, and don't steer you toward one brand. Our licensed gas fitters certify any gas work, and taking the old unit away is part of every replacement. Our hot water replacement page has the full list of options.
If it's leaking right now
Shut the cold water valve at the inlet to the unit. On an electric system, turn off the hot water circuit at the switchboard; on gas, set the control on the unit to off. A slow drip can wait for standard hours, Monday to Friday 7am to 3pm and Saturday 7am to 12pm. Water pouring through a ceiling or across the floor is a job for our 24/7 line.

Hot water St George FAQs
Can you fix my hot water today?
Often, if you call during standard hours. The common parts are already in the van, and we'll give you a time when you ring.
Should I switch from electric to gas or a heat pump?
It depends on whether you have gas at the meter, where the unit can go and your budget. We price the options side by side so you can compare.
My apartment's hot water is shared with the building. Who do I call?
Tell your strata manager first, because a shared system is usually common property. We can work with them on access and the quote.
Do you take the old unit away?
Yes. Removing and disposing of the old system is included in every replacement.
